What is solid shower gel?
Solid shower gel – what can piece care really do?
Whether for the perfect start to the day or gentle relaxation in the evening, a shower ensures that we feel completely at ease and the shower gel that we use should also provide our skin with nourishing ingredients. While until now mainly liquid shower gels were found in most bathrooms, solid shower gels that look like a bar of soap are becoming more and more popular. But what are solid shower gels all about, how do they work, what advantages do they bring and how do you use them correctly? Would you like to learn more about the plastic-free alternative? We have put together everything you need to know.
Did you know…
Conventional shower gels consist of a particularly large proportion of water, mostly chemical surfactants and glycerin. In addition, fragrances, colorings and preservatives are usually added and it is not uncommon to find microplastic particles in them. These get into our waters unhindered through showering and heavily pollute the environment. The numerous "questionable" ingredients often dry out the skin quickly, which can lead to itching and dandruff. Finally, liquid shower gels are packaged in plastic bottles.
Until now, you only had the option of using liquid alternatives made from natural ingredients and in recycled bottles. Solid shower gels now also have numerous advantages that you should definitely know about.
What is solid shower gel?
Wait a minute... Isn't a solid shower gel just a soap? Like you, many people ask themselves this question. Without a doubt, bar soap and solid shower gel look very similar, but differ fundamentally in their manufacture and ingredients. A solid shower gel is a shower gel from which water has been removed. This is how the firm consistency is achieved. In comparison, with soap, fats or vegetable oils are boiled off together with a lye. Due to the manufacturing process, soaps have a basic pH of 9 to 20. However, our skin is rather acidic with a pH of 4 to 5. If you were to use normal soap for your daily shower, it would remove the skin's natural protective acid mantle and natural greasy film. A solid shower gel has a low pH value that is similar to our skin, which makes the bar care more skin-friendly and strengthens the protective film.
